HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sharnell S.
4 Jackson on the occasion of her retirement as Chief eLearning
5 Officer with the Chicago Public Schools Information &
6 Technology Services after 34 years of dedicated service; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson holds a bachelor's degree in
8 elementary education from Graceland College in Iowa, a master's
9 degree in curriculum and instruction from National-Louis
10 University in Evanston, a master's degree in educational
11 leadership and administration from Lewis University in
12 Illinois, and a master's degree in mathematics, science, and
13 instructional technology from Wheeling Jesuit University in
14 Wheeling, West Virginia; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson has had a long and
16 distinguished career in education; she began her career with
17 Chicago Public Schools in September of 1974 as a kindergarten
18 teacher at Caldwell Elementary in Chicago; she was promoted to
19 the position of Chief eLearning Officer with the Chicago Public
20 Schools Information & Technology Services in 2005, remaining
21 there until her retirement; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson has served on numerous

1 advisory boards, councils, and committees; she has worked with
2 such organizations as the National Forum on Education
3 Statistics PK-12 Data Model Task Force; she was a Chicago
4 Public Schools Response to Intervention (RTI+) Team Member for
5 all areas of the tiered level support strategies, the City of
6 Chicago Mayor's Advisory Council Member on Closing the Digital
7 Divide, a Past President-Elect of the Illinois Computing
8 Educators (ICE), and a U.S. Department of Education Regional
9 Advisory Council Member (RAC) and committee chair; she is a
10 University of Chicago High School Sciences Fellow and a NASA
11 Math, Science and Instructional Technology Master Teacher
12 Cadre Fellow Member; she is a board member of the Consortium
13 for Schools Networking (CoSN); she is a member of the
14 International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
15 Policy and Advocacy Committee, the National Educational
16 Technology for Students (NETS) Refresh Advisory Committee, and
17 the National Educational Advisory Board for Cable in the
18 Classroom; she was also a member of the Education Advisory
19 Panel for the Schools Interoperability Framework Association
20 (SIFA and SCORM) and the Illinois Technology Association (ITA);
21 and
 
22     WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson has received numerous awards
23 for her work; she was a finalist for the 1997 Golden Apple
24 Foundation Award; she was awarded the National Science Teacher
25 Association (NSTA) 1996 Presidential Award for Excellence in

1 Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the 2007 Apple
2 Distinguished Educator of the Year Award, and the Illinois
3 Science Educator of the Year Award; she was also an Intel Teach
4 to the Future Program Foundation and Corporate Funding
5 Recipient; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Despite her voluminous body of work, Sharnell S.
7 Jackson's proudest accomplishments are her 33-year marriage to
8 her husband, Martin Jackson, her son, Martin Jackson II, her
9 daughter, Jisun MacFarland, her son-in-law, Derrick
10 MacFarland, and her granddaughter, Daja Nagra-Jackson;
11 therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 congratulate Sharnell S. Jackson on the occasion of her
15 retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the
16 future; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Sharnell S. Jackson as a symbol of our esteem and
19 respect.
