HOUSE RESOLUTION 1059

WHEREAS, Promoting "fire stop systems" will equate to the
construction of all types of buildings being better equipped in
the event of a fire; this compartmentalization will prevent
fire and smoke from spreading throughout the building; and

WHEREAS, Fire stopping would prevent smoke from moving from
one area to another; most people in fires die from smoke
inhalation and not the fire itself; and

WHEREAS, Fire stopping can keep dust and airborne
contaminants from moving from one segment of a building to
another; and

WHEREAS, Fire stopping works in conjunction with
sprinklers to afford the best protection to help save lives in
the event that the sprinkler system fails and to keep developed
smoke from the fire in the area of the burn; and

WHEREAS, Installation and inspection of proper fire stop
systems should be promoted by the State Fire Marshal in its
curriculum that is part of the training and certification for
the hundreds of fire inspectors in Illinois; therefore, be it
