HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their immense sadness and grief
4 over the tragedy that occurred on the Northern Illinois
5 University Campus and the losses of Catalina Garcia, Daniel
6 Parmenter, Ryanne Mace, Julianna Gehant, and Gayle Dubowski,
7 who lost their lives in the tragic events at Northern Illinois
8 University on February 14, 2008; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
10 Representatives wish to express heartfelt concern and sorrow
11 for those injured during the events of that day; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The immeasurable pain and loss that has been
13 suffered by the entire campus community and their families can
14 be felt by the members of this body, by the citizens of the
15 State of Illinois as a whole, and the entire nation; the
16 effects of this tragic event will always be a part of our lives
17 and memory; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The NIU administration and university early
19 responders are to be commended for their quick response to such
20 a dire crisis, in part due to their diligent preparation to
21 such a crisis in the wake of the tragedy that took place at
22 Virginia Tech University; and

1     WHEREAS, Colleges and universities across the nation have
2 shared their experiences, expertise, and support in our time of
3 need, which has provided immeasurable assistance and has helped
4 to strengthen NIU and the State of Illinois as a whole as we
5 heal; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Coordination between local hospitals, law
7 enforcement, emergency workers, NIU faculty, staff, and
8 administrators, and the entire community was exemplary;
9 therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 mourn, along with the families, friends, students and faculty
13 of NIU, the deaths of Catalina Garcia, Daniel Parmenter, Ryanne
14 Mace, Julianna Gehant, and Gayle Dubowski, whose lives were
15 ended far too soon; and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That we hope for the speedy recovery of those
17 injured in the events at Northern Illinois University and ask
18 the people of the State of Illinois to keep them in their
19 thoughts; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That we thank the DeKalb area medical community,
21 law enforcement, emergency responders, the NIU faculty, staff

1 and administrators for their quick response, hard work,
2 compassion, and dedication to the students and families of
3 Northern Illinois University; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
5 presented to the families of Catalina Garcia, Daniel Parmenter,
6 Ryanne Mace, Julianna Gehant, and Gayle Dubowski, Northern
7 Illinois University, and the DeKalb community as symbols of our
8 great sympathy and respect.
