HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize the Knights of
4 Columbus and all their hard work, devotion, and history of
5 charity; and
 
6     WHEREAS, 2008 is the 126th anniversary of the founding of
7 the Knights of Columbus; on March 29, 1882, the Connecticut
8 legislature officially chartered the Knights of Columbus; the
9 fraternal organization was founded by Father Michael J.
10 McGivney with a group of parishioners in the basement of St.
11 Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus has grown to become the
13 largest lay Catholic organization in the world, with more than
14 1.7 million members; and
 
15     WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus members have contributed
16 billions of dollars and millions of hours to volunteer service
17 and charities throughout their history; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus counts members in the United
19 States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Panama, Mexico, and other
20 countries; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 designate March 29, 2008, as Knights of Columbus Founders Day
4 in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Ted Castro Sr. of the Knights of Columbus Good
7 Shepherd Council #5573 in Joliet as a symbol of our respect.
