HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John H.
4 Goodspeed Jr. of Centralia, who passed away on November 12,
5 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born on March 22, 1931 in Chicago; his
7 parents were John H. Goodspeed Sr. and Dorothy (Meyer)
8 Goodspeed; he married Ellen Sanders on October 5, 2006; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Goodspeed originated the business of
10 factory-built municipal water distribution equipment and water
11 booster pump stations, founding Engineered Fluid (Process)
12 Incorporated in 1964; he was educated in St. Louis and served
13 in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, at the rank of
14 machinery repairman first class; he served in the Korean War;
15 and he received the Kaskaskia College Entrepreneur of the Year
16 award in 2004; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Mr. Goodspeed was an avid golfer and deep-water
18 sports fisherman, winning many tournaments, most notably the
19 Ernest Hemingway Torneo Touristico Internacional in Copa Lake
20 Zaza, Cuba, in 1978, the Walker Cay, Bahamas in 1988 (which was
21 featured on the cover of South Florida Angler's Guide), and the
22 Stuart Light Tackle Tournament in 1990; his family remembers

1 him as a generous person with an excellent taste in wine; and
 
2     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill
3 Goodspeed; and his grandson, Brian Goodspeed; and
 
4     WHEREAS, John H. Goodspeed Jr. is survived by his wife,
5 Ellen; his son, Bill (Vicki) Goodspeed; his seven
6 grandchildren; his five step-grandchildren; his nine
7 great-grandchildren; his eight step-great-grandchildren; his
8 step-great-great-grandchild; his sisters-in-law, Marie
9 Goodspeed, Marilyn Heath (Nathan), Barbara Hard, Carol
10 Salisbury (Mike), and Doris Thompson (Jim); his
11 brothers-in-law, Jess Peak Jr. (Daisy) and Steven Peak; his
12 nephews, Matt Goodspeed and Paul Goodspeed; his stepsons, Brad
13 Sanders (Terri) and Tony Sanders (Nancy); and many friends;
14 therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John
18 H. Goodspeed Jr.; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of John H. Goodspeed Jr. as a symbol of
21 our sympathy.
