HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives of the 95th Illinois General Assembly are
4 pleased to recognize significant organizations within this
5 State that work to foster cultural awareness and provide
6 valuable services in their communities; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago
8 is hosting a celebration on Friday, October 5, 2007, in
9 observance of the 96th National Day of the Republic of China
10 (Taiwan) on October 10, 2007; and
 
11     WHEREAS, The Republic of China, the official name of
12 Taiwan, was founded nearly 96 years ago as Asia's first
13 republic; the nation has established a democratic, multiple
14 party political system and is an economic presence that
15 continues to play an important role in the international arena;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago
18 was formed as a result of the passage by the United States
19 Congress of the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 to serve the
20 Taiwan citizens in the Midwestern United States and the
21 interests of the Republic of China (Taiwan); and

1     WHEREAS, We have seen that Taiwan, as a sister-state of
2 Illinois since such relations were established in 1992,
3 continues to strengthen relations with the State of Illinois by
4 increasing opportunities for cooperation and exchange in
5 education, culture, trade, commerce, science, and technology
6 between Taiwan and Illinois, as demonstrated by the signing of
7 a Letter of Intent between Illinois growers and Taiwan
8 importers for the purchase of Illinois-grown agricultural
9 products; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 commend the nation of Taiwan on its many achievements and that
13 we congratulate the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in
14 Chicago on the occasion of the 96th National Day of the
15 Republic of China (Taiwan); and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Director General Thomas Cheng of the Taipei
18 Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago with our sincerest
19 wishes for continued success in the future.
