HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Pauline Gardiner
4 on the occasion of celebrating her 100th birthday on August 7,
5 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Pauline Gardiner is the eldest of 4 children; she
7 grew up in Murphysboro and spent much of her life in the
8 southern part of the State; she was caught in the massive
9 tornado that hit struck Jackson County on March 18, 1925 while
10 she was a senior in high school, where she recalled being in
11 the school's assembly room at the time a teacher rapped on the
12 desk to instruct the students into the hallway; and
 
13     WHEREAS, After graduating from high school in June 1927,
14 Pauline Gardiner moved to Grand Tower, where she worked at
15 Central Illinois Public Service; she left after three years
16 once she married her husband, Charles; together they owned and
17 operated a drugstore for more than 34 years; she remained in
18 Grand Tower for 43 years, moving to Mt. Vernon in 1968 after
19 Charles died; she later worked at a generating power plant, a
20 factory that manufactured dynamite and powder, and a paint
21 factory before retiring from Western Union; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Pauline Gardiner has been blessed with excellent

1 vitality; she drove a car until she was 90; she has been at her
2 current home since 2001; and she only takes one prescription
3 per day; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Pauline Gardiner has one son, William; and three
5 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one
6 great-great-grandson; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate Pauline Gardiner on the occasion of celebrating
10 her 100th birthday and wish her continued good health and
11 happiness in the future; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Pauline Gardiner as a symbol of our esteem and
14 respect.
