HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Freeport resident
4 Matthew Marvin for a life well lived; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Matthew Marvin recently celebrated his 70th
6 anniversary with the Rotary Club; during World War II Mr.
7 Marvin would actively seek out Rotary Clubs in Belgium and
8 Switzerland, and helped fellow soldiers to later join the
9 organization; because of his achievement he earned an audience
10 with District 6420 Governor Pat Burch, who praised Mr. Marvin
11 as a leader in the Rotary organization; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In 2003 Matthew Marvin donated $1 million to the
13 Freeport Community Foundation for the second time in his life;
14 his previous work in insurance and real estate made him
15 appreciate making people happy and seeing the community of
16 Freeport prosper; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Matthew Marvin is the only timekeeper in the USA
18 Boxing Hall of Fame; he has served as timekeeper for events
19 such as the Junior Olympic National Championships, for over 57
20 years; he got his start in 1946 while serving in the United
21 States Army and volunteering; and

1     WHEREAS, Matthew Marvin took part in the landing at Utah
2 Beach during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II; and
 
3     WHEREAS, On August 7, 2006 an ordinance was passed by the
4 Freeport City Council to name a part of Park Boulevard in
5 Freeport Matt Marvin Way; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 congratulate Matthew Marvin for his many gifts to the people of
9 Freeport, for his noteworthy achievements throughout the
10 years, and for being a standout citizen of the State of
11 Illinois; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Matthew Marvin as a symbol of our respect and
14 admiration.
