HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of
4 Forest Park on the occasion of its Village centennial; and
 
5     WHEREAS, For thousands of years, the people of the
6 Potawatomi tribe inhabited the ground that is now Forest Park,
7 burying their dead along the Des Plains River in the area now
8 known as the Forest Home Cemetery; and
 
9     WHEREAS, After Illinois entered the Union, much of the area
10 was known as Oak Ridge; in 1856, a railroad was built through
11 the area, bringing a workforce and a settlement date the same
12 year; and
 
13     WHEREAS, In 1907, the Village of Harlem changed its name to
14 Forest Park, and Henry J. Mohr served 13 years as the Village's
15 last President and first Mayor; in 1913, Forest Park held its
16 first election as a commission form of government; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Forest Park is a designated Main Street community;
18 it has retained many features, such as original cobblestone
19 streets, that preserve the aesthetics of the original
20 settlement; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 congratulate the citizens of Forest Park at this special time
4 in the Village's history and wish them continued success in the
5 future; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the Mayor of Forest Park, Anthony T. Calderone, as
8 a symbol of our esteem.
