HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Michael "Mike" Smith has been a resident of the
3 Village of New Lenox, Illinois for thirty years and is
4 presently completing his second term as its Mayor; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Michael Smith was elected to the Northeastern
6 Illinois Planning Commission in June 1999 by the Council of
7 Mayors and served as NIPC President from 2002-2005, as well as
8 Chairman of the Legislative Committee; he was selected in
9 October 2005 to serve as the Will County Representative on the
10 newly-created Regional Planning Board where he serves as the
11 Vice-Chairman; he was chosen in January 2003 to serve as a
12 Director of METRA and chairs the Budget Committee; he is the
13 President of the Will County Governmental League, chairs the
14 Legislative Committee, and served on transition team
15 (Transportation Committee) for Governor Rod Blagojevich; he is
16 also serving on the Local Advisory Committee for the 1-355
17 Extension as well as the Vice Chairman for Legislative
18 Committee for the Illinois Municipal League; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mike belongs to several organizations including
20 the Masons, Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars (lifetime
21 member), Chairman of the New Lenox Township Republican
22 Organization, Illinois Municipal League, Metro Mayors Caucus,
23 New Lenox Chamber of Commerce, Chicago Southland Chamber of

1 Commerce, the Steering Committee for the United Way of Will
2 County, and is a Director for the Rainbow Council of the Boy
3 Scouts of America; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Friends and associates of Michael Smith will
5 gather at a farewell reception on Monday, April 30, 2007 to pay
6 tribute to him for his dedication and years of service to the
7 residents of New Lenox and to acknowledge and thank him for his
8 many accomplishments as Mayor that will benefit the Village of
9 New Lenox for years to come; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Michael Smith is to be congratulated for his
11 service to the Village of New Lenox and is wished all the best
12 as he pursues a career in the private sector; he is also wished
13 continued success and happiness as he shares these future
14 endeavors with his wife of 39 years, Laurie; their three
15 daughters, Kim, Kristi, and Karen; and his other family
16 members; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19 thank Michael "Mike" Smith for his many years of service to the
20 Village of New Lenox; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to Michael "Mike" Smith.
