HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Illinois' public housing authorities are
3 essential in the State of Illinois; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Illinois is home to 111 public housing authorities
5 serving an estimated 105,017 families of the State of Illinois;
6 and
 
7     WHEREAS, Illinois' public housing authorities provide
8 high-quality affordable housing to residents in the State of
9 Illinois through the use of Federal resources and programs; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Illinois' public housing authorities have
11 successfully assisted residents of the State of Illinois with
12 Moving to Work programs and apprenticeship training, resulting
13 in greater self-sufficiency and a reduced burden on State
14 resources; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Developments built by Illinois' public housing
16 authorities have in some instances increased the values of
17 neighboring properties and communities in the State of
18 Illinois; and
 
19     WHEREAS, New funding guidelines developed by the United
20 States Department of Housing and Urban Development may result

1 in reduced funding for the State of Illinois, its public
2 housing authorities, and the Illinoisans who rely on these
3 services; and
 
4     WHEREAS, New funding guidelines developed by the United
5 States Department of Housing and Urban Development may result
6 in over $39,000,000 less than the Department has estimated is
7 needed for housing authorities in Illinois to be well-run; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Illinois' public housing authorities are a major
9 employer in the State of Illinois, and funding cuts from the
10 United States Department of Housing and Urban Development may
11 result in drastic layoffs and diminished services to the
12 residents of public housing; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 recognize the importance of the quality services, support, and
16 housing provided by Illinois' public housing authorities and
17 respectfully urge the Congress to provide equitable funding to
18 the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development
19 for the operation of quality affordable housing; and be it
20 further
 
21     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
22 the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
