HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John M.
4 Hyland; and
 
5     WHEREAS, John Hyland was a social studies teacher at the
6 Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences and a 20-year
7 veteran of the Chicago Public Schools; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He accompanied high school students on annual trip
9 to Washington, D.C. to participate in Close-Up, a program that
10 gave students a first hand look at how the federal government
11 works; he was the coordinator of the annual Metro Chicago
12 History Fair at the high school, with his students consistently
13 bringing in the highest awards for their projects; and
 
14     WHEREAS, In addition to teaching high school, John Hyland
15 taught geography at Chicago State University for several years;
16 and he achieved National Board Certification as a master
17 teacher in social studies; and
 
18     WHEREAS, John Hyland was an avid bike rider, riding his
19 bicycle to work everyday, no matter the weather conditions; he
20 inspired others to exercise and enjoy the outdoors; and

1     WHEREAS, John Hyland was also an avid swimmer and world
2 traveler; he and his wife were the proud proprietors of
3 Forjay's Orient Express; and
 
4     WHEREAS, John Hyland is remembered for his warm smile,
5 infectious laugh, and positive outlook on life that he
6 reflected onto his students; and
 
7     WHEREAS, John Hyland was the beloved husband of Joy (nee
8 Lauza); the loving father of Joanna and Jason; the devoted son
9 of Florence "Corky" (nee Callaghan), and the late Dick Hyland;
10 the loving brother of Mary Ann (John) Rowan, Dick (Kathy),
11 Nancy (the late Dr. George) Lewis, Pat (Tony) Waldron, and
12 Chris (Dianne) Hyland; the fabled uncle of the late Kevin
13 Rowan, Dan Rowan, David (Colleen) Hyland, Karen Hyland, Marty
14 Lewis, Emily, Sarah, and Conor Waldron; the dear son-in-law of
15 the late Genara Lauza and Cesario Reyes; and the dear
16 brother-in-law of the late Jun Reyes Joe (Es) Reyes; therefore,
17 be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John
21 Hyland; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
