HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Brian Waitkus, president of La Salle Elementary
3 District #122, was honored by Dr. Christopher J. Ward,
4 vice-chair of the Illinois State Board of Education, with the
5 2006 Thomas Lay Burroughs Award during the annual joint
6 conference of the Illinois Association of School Boards,
7 Illinois Association of School Administrators, and Illinois
8 Association of School Business Officials in Chicago; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Waitkus has served on the La Salle school board
10 since 1991; November of 2006 marked his ninth year as school
11 board president of the elementary district, which has an
12 enrollment of 920 students in grades pre-K through
13 eighth-grade; and
 
14     WHEREAS, "Mr. Waitkus addresses crises and difficulties
15 with courage and patience. He is able to reach consensus in
16 solving a problem," Dr. Joan McGuire, La Salle Elementary
17 District Superintendent, wrote in her nomination letter for
18 Waitkus; she continued her nomination letter for Mr. Waitkus by
19 stating "The board is informed and educated by Brian in a calm,
20 non-judgmental fashion. He has earned the respect of the
21 students, teachers, administration, and community"; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The Thomas Lay Burroughs Award is named after a

1 former State Board chairman; it was created in 1991 and is
2 presented annually; The criteria for the award are: leadership
3 on behalf of improved student learning and educational
4 excellence, leadership on behalf of equal educational
5 opportunities, and leadership in resolving a crisis or major
6 difficulty; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate Brian Waitkus on receiving the 2006 Thomas Lay
10 Burroughs Award from the Illinois State Board of Education and
11 wish him continued success in his future endeavors; and be it
12 further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Brian Waitkus.
