SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 9 new

    Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this State. Provides that this State and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status similar to that of marriage.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7 election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8 this resolution a proposition to add Section 9 to Article XIII
9 of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

GENERAL PROVISIONS

12     (ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 9 new)
13 SECTION 9. MARRIAGE
14     To secure and preserve the benefits of marriage for our
15 society and for future generations of children, only a union of
16 one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a
17 marriage in this State. This State and its political
18 subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status
19 similar to that of marriage.

SCHEDULE
21     This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
22 declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
