HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, "JR in the Mornings" was a staple in the Rock
3 River Valley, always providing a voice to the voiceless, an ear
4 to local events, an outlet for community discussion of
5 hot-button issues, and an unmatched dedication to listeners;
6 and
 
7     WHEREAS, A true radio pioneer, John "J.R." Rohwer wielded
8 memorable impact upon the Rock River Valley community
9 throughout his 40 plus years on the air; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The number one radio broadcaster in the Valley
11 challenged his listeners to discuss difficult issues, like the
12 closing of the local steel mill, for the benefit of the
13 community; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The son of a Navy veteran-turned-radio man and an
15 Illinois farm girl with a knack for radio engineering, John
16 "J.R." Rohwer is a man of faith, known for his sensitive nature
17 and introspective depth; and
 
18     WHEREAS, As the devoted father of Jim and Matt, Mr. Rohwer
19 treasured special moments with his beloved sons, teaching them
20 the lessons of life while fishing or playing baseball or
21 football; and

1     WHEREAS, As a gifted intellectual, Mr. Rohwer crafted
2 award-winning editorials, played classical piano beautifully,
3 and published intriguing short stories; and
 
4     WHEREAS, "J.R." always went the extra mile, often arriving
5 at 2:00 AM to prepare for his show, repair the station's
6 equipment, and help anyone with anything they required;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
10 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we honor John "J.R." Rohwer on
11 the occasion of his outstanding career and a life well lived;
12 he left an indelible imprint on Illinois broadcasting and will
13 forever be remembered for his integrity, his intelligence, and
14 his passion for life; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to John "J.R." Rohwer as a symbol of our esteem and
17 respect.
