HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Marine Corporal Joseph E. Stevenson III of Downers
5 Grove, who passed away on October 28, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Downers Grove North High
7 School, where he was voted captain of the school's swim team;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Before he was 18, he joined the Marine Corps, one
10 of his lifelong goals; he entered active duty in 2005 and was
11 deployed to Iraq in August 2006; after serving one tour in
12 Iraq, he was sent to Camp Pendleton, California to undergo
13 reconnaissance training, where he remained until his untimely
14 death; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was an avid fan of swimming; during military
16 leave, he attended competitions for the Orchardbrook Swim Team
17 to cheer for the children he had helped coach for three years;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, Corporal Joseph E. Stevenson III is survived by
20 his parents, Joseph Jr. and Barbara Ann Stamper-Stevenson; his
21 sister, Lindsey Stevenson; his grandmothers, Dorothy and

1 Mafalda; and his many friends and fellow soldiers; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Corporal Joseph E. Stevenson III will be
3 remembered by all who knew and loved him as a loving and
4 patriotic soldier who would fight until the end for his
5 country, his family, and the Marine Corps; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
8 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we mourn, along with his family
9 and friends, the passing of United States Marine Corporal
10 Joseph E. Stevenson III; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Corporal Joseph E.
12 Stevenson III and his willingness to serve our country, which
13 led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Corporal Joseph E. Stevenson III as
16 an expression of our sympathy.
