Amends the Counties Code. Provides that the county board may remove the county treasurer from office if he or she refuses to provide the county board with certain information concerning the accounts maintained by the county treasurer's office or if he or she refuses to render an account or make settlement as required by law (instead of as required by law or by the county board). Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning local government.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section |
5 |
| 3-10020 as follows:
|

| Sec. 3-10020. Removal for cause; other vacancy. If any |
8 |
| county
treasurer shall neglect or refuse to render an account, |
9 |
| or make settlement
at any time when required by law, or by the |
10 |
| county board, or refuse to
answer any question regarding the |
11 |
| operation of the county treasurer's office propounded to him by |
12 |
| the county board, or refuse to provide the county board with |
13 |
| any requested information concerning the accounts maintained |
14 |
| by the county treasurer's office, provided the requests are for |
15 |
| information that the county treasurer is required by law to |
16 |
| maintain and in a format already maintained by the county |
17 |
| treasurer, or is a
defaulter, and in arrears with the county, |
18 |
| or is guilty of any other
misconduct in his office, the county |
19 |
| board may remove him from office, and
the presiding officer of |
20 |
| the county board, with the advice and consent of
the county |
21 |
| board, may appoint some suitable person to perform the duties |
22 |
| of
treasurer until his successor is elected, or appointed and |
23 |
| qualified; or if
by reason of the death or resignation of the |
