SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2605/2605-510 new

    Amends the Department of State Police Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires the Department of State Police to establish and administer, as a pilot program in 10 zip codes within the State, an automated wellness-check system. Provides that, under the system, senior citizens and individuals with a disability or illness may register with the Department to receive automated calls at an agreed-upon time and, if the dispatcher is unable to reach the registered person by telephone after 3 attempts in a 5-minute span, then a State or local law-enforcement officer will be sent to the person's home to check on his or her welfare. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Department of State Police Law of the Civil
5 Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding Section
6 2605-510 as follows:
 
7     (20 ILCS 2605/2605-510 new)
8     Sec. 2605-510. Automated wellness-check system. The
9 Department shall establish and administer, as a pilot program
10 in 10 zip codes within the State, an automated wellness-check
11 system. Under the system, senior citizens and individuals with
12 a disability or illness may register with the Department to
13 receive automated calls at an agreed-upon time. If the
14 dispatcher is unable to reach the registered person by
15 telephone after 3 attempts in a 5-minute span, then a State or
16 local law-enforcement officer will be sent to the person's home
17 to check on his or her welfare.
 
18     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.
