SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Trans Fat Disclosure Act. Provides that a restaurant or similar retail food establishment must mark any food containing 0.5 grams or more of trans fat with a label on its menu stating that the food contains trans fat. Provides that this requirement applies only to restaurants and similar retail food establishments with $20 million or more in annual gross sales. Requires the Department of Public Health to adopt rules to administer and enforce the Act.

1     AN ACT concerning public health.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Trans
5 Fat Disclosure Act.
 
6     Section 5. Trans fat disclosure. A restaurant or similar
7 retail food establishment must mark any food containing 0.5
8 grams or more of trans fat with a label on its menu stating
9 that the food contains trans fat. This Section applies only to
10 restaurants and similar retail food establishments with $20
11 million or more in annual gross sales.
 
12     Section 10. Administration; enforcement. The Department of
13 Public Health shall adopt rules to administer and enforce this
14 Act, including the imposition of a civil penalty.
