    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Makes a technical change in a provision concerning Professional Sports Teams license plates.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 and renumbering Section 3-654, as added by Public Act 92-699,
6 as follows:
 
7     (625 ILCS 5/3-658)
8     Sec. 3-658 3-654. Professional Sports Teams license
9 plates.
10     (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in
11 the form prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special
12 registration plates designated as Professional Sports Teams
13 license plates. The special plates issued under this Section
14 shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first
15 division and motor vehicles of the second division weighing not
16 more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section shall
17 expire according to the multi-year procedure established by
18 Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
19     (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the
20 discretion of the Secretary, except that the plates shall,
21 subject to the permission of the applicable team owner, display
22 the logo of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Bulls, the Chicago
23 Blackhawks Black Hawks, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago White

1 Sox, the St. Louis Rams, or the St. Louis Cardinals, at the
2 applicant's option. The Secretary may allow the plates to be
3 issued as vanity or personalized plates under Section 3-405.1
4 of the Code. The Secretary shall prescribe stickers or decals
5 as provided under Section 3-412 of this Code.
6     (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a
7 $40 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
8 registration fee. Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the
9 Professional Sports Teams Education Fund and $15 shall be
10 deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate
11 Fund, to be used by the Secretary to help defray the
12 administrative processing costs.
13     For each registration renewal period, a $27 fee, in
14 addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged.
15 Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the Professional
16 Sports Teams Education Fund and $2 shall be deposited into the
17 Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
18     (d) The Professional Sports Teams Education Fund is created
19 as a special fund in the State treasury. All moneys in the
20 Professional Sports Teams Education Fund shall, subject to
21 appropriation by the General Assembly and approval by the
22 Secretary, be deposited every 6 months into the Common School
23 Fund.
