SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
730 ILCS 5/3-4-3.1 new

    Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Provides that driver's licenses, State issued identification cards, social security account cards, or other government issued identification documents in possession of a county sheriff at the time a person is committed to the Illinois Department of Corrections shall be forwarded to the Department. Provides that the Department shall retain the government issued identification documents of a committed person at the institution in which the person is incarcerated and shall ensure that the documents are forwarded to any institution to which the person is transferred. Provides that the government issued identification documents of a committed person shall be made available to the person upon discharge from the Department.

1     AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Unified Code of Corrections is amended by
5 adding Section 3-4-3.1 as follows:
 
6     (730 ILCS 5/3-4-3.1 new)
7     Sec. 3-4-3.1. Identification documents of committed
8 persons.
9     (a) Driver's licenses, State issued identification cards,
10 social security account cards, or other government issued
11 identification documents in possession of a county sheriff at
12 the time a person is committed to the Illinois Department of
13 Corrections shall be forwarded to the Department.
14     (b) The Department shall retain the government issued
15 identification documents of a committed person at the
16 institution in which the person is incarcerated and shall
17 ensure that the documents are forwarded to any institution to
18 which the person is transferred.
19     (c) The government issued identification documents of a
20 committed person shall be made available to the person upon
