SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express
3 their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Chester
4 Arthur Swopes of North Chicago, who recently passed away; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Chester Swopes was born on May 30, 1930 in Pea
6 Ridge, Arkansas; his parents were Ernest and Annie Belle
7 Swopes; he married Mary Williams in June of 1992; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He accepted Christ at an early age while attending
9 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church; he joined the Christian Valley
10 Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago, and served as the
11 Treasurer, on the Deacon Board, and the Usher Board as a member
12 and an officer for over 40 years; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He served as 5th Ward Alderman in North Chicago
14 for 15 years; he was also active with the PTA and school
15 activities, serving as the PTA President; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Chester Swopes enjoyed traveling, golfing, and
17 meeting new people; he was a great storyteller, had a good
18 sense of humor, and was considered loyal; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Chester Swopes is survived by his wife, Mary; his
20 children, Leotis "Joe" Swopes and wife, Polpy; Louise Harris
21 and husband, Willie; Alice Swopes-Sherrod; Ernest Swopes, Carl
22 Swopes, Bruce Swopes, Aaron Swopes, and Diane and her husband,
23 Mark; his siblings, Annie Lee Hudson and her husband, Leroy,
24 Herman Swopes and his wife, Barbara, Merseal Bankston, Lepoleon
25 Swopes, Marjorie Kurkendall, Alberta Neal, and Sherman Swopes
26 and his wife, Jean; his 24 grandchildren; his 12
27 great-grandchildren; his godchildren, Ashton Hughes and Tayler
28 Survillion; his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and
29 friends; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we again send our
3 sympathies to the family and friends of Chester Swopes; and be
4 it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Chester Swopes.
