SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of David B. Simons of Peoria
4 on Sunday, October 1, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on July 10, 1926, to George
6 and Pearl Green Simons; he married Marilyn Weinstein on
7 September 3, 1950, in Peoria; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Simons received a Bachelor of Science degree
9 in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois,
10 where he was a member of the Ta Epsilon Phi Fraternity; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He served his country as a member of the United
12 States Navy during World War II; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He was a Real Estate Broker, State Certified
14 General Appraiser, and was the owner of Citizens Real Estate
15 Co.; he was a member of the National Association of Independent
16 Fee Appraisers, and IFAS, Independent Fee Appraisers; he was a
17 member and past president of the Peoria Board of Realtors,
18 which last month awarded him the honor of being the oldest
19 living past president; he was a past Education Committee Chair
20 of the Illinois Association of Real Estate Boards; he authored
21 the manual for the Boards' Education Programs; and
 
22     WHEREAS, He was a member of Congregation Anshai Emeth,
23 where he was past president of Anshai Emeth Religious School,
24 PTO, was a Sunday School teacher, and a member of B'nai Brith;
25 and
 
26     WHEREAS, He was a member of Mt. Hawley Country Club, the
27 former University Club, and the Peoria Amvets; he volunteered
28 for various charitable organizations during his 55 years of
29 service in the Peoria Community; and

1     WHEREAS, He was an avid sports fan, reader, crossword
2 puzzle enthusiast, and a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs; he
3 was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; he loved
4 spending time with his family, friends, and his three dear
5 cats; he was a wonderful loyal friend, and his wonderful sense
6 of humor will be missed; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The passing of David B. Simons of Peoria has been
8 deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Marilyn; his
9 daughter, Cheryl (and Peter) Sanfilip; and his granddaughter,
10 Debbie Hasselbacher; he was preceded in death by his daughter,
11 Debra L. Simons, in 1972; his stepfather, Sylvan Liebshcutz;
12 and his son-in-law, William Hasselbacher; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15 David B. Simons, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his
16 family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17 further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
20 sympathy.
