SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of William Kevin "Bill"
4 Connell of Alton on Friday, May 12, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on September 8, 1927, in Alton to
6 William Kevin and Marie (Delehanty) Connell Sr.; he married
7 Irene Gertrude Moore on September 3, 1949; she preceded him in
8 death on January 3, 1983; he married Margene (Dunn) Wade on
9 April 12, 1985, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Alton; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He graduated in 1945 from Marquette Catholic High
11 School in Alton and went on to attend Saint Louis University;
12 he valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy
13 during World War II and the Korean War; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Before his retirement in 1986 from customer
15 services, Mr. Connell was employed for 40 years at Shell Oil
16 Refinery in Wood River; he was a long-time member of the former
17 Saint Matthews Catholic Church, where he proudly served as an
18 usher and on the parish board and Saint Vincent DePaul Society;
19 he was a charter member of A.V.E.C. (Alton Volunteer Emergency
20 Corps), a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Alton
21 Council 460, and was a member of Kiwanis International; he was
22 active in the Alton Centennial and Sesquicentennial and enjoyed
23 square-dancing with the Jersey County Squares; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of William Kevin "Bill" Connell has
25 been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Margene; his son
26 and daughter-in-law, Michael Kevin and Jane Connell; his
27 stepdaughter and her husband, Ronda and Ron Bell; his stepson
28 and his wife, Ed and Melanie Wade; his 11 grandchildren; his
29 brothers and sister-in-law, James Connell and Richard and
30 Gloria Connell; and his numerous nieces and nephews, other
31 extended family, and many friends; in addition to his wife and

1 parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Carlson;
2 his stepmother, Mary "Pat" (Roberts) Connell Long; and his
3 stepfather, Ed Long; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6 William Kevin "Bill" Connell, and we extend our sincere
7 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
8 him; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
11 sympathy.
