SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Simone J. Mokrauer of Oak
4 Park on April 21, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born in Strasbourg, France, and also lived
6 in Germany, England, Scotland, and Lebanon, before moving to
7 the United States in 1946; after seven years in Manhattan and
8 five years in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, she and her family
9 moved to Westfield, New Jersey, where she lived for the next 45
10 years; in 2003 she retired to Holley Court Terrace in Oak Park;
11 and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mrs. Mokrauer was educated at the Sorbonne in
13 Paris and dedicated her life to French and German education as
14 a teacher and a private tutor, traveling the world to sightsee
15 and visit her many friends and her constantly expanding family;
16 she was an inveterate reader and Scrabble player in French,
17 German, and English, and in her constant effort to expand her
18 horizons, she was an avid participant in various activities,
19 most notably the Great Books Program; and
 
20     WHEREAS, In Westfield, she was a member of Le Petit Coin de
21 France, the Westfield Historical Society, and the Westfield
22 Community Players, and she hosted a group of former French
23 students from Kean University for more than 25 years; in Oak
24 Park she attended meetings of the French Club; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The passing of Simone Mokrauer has been deeply
26 felt by many, especially her children, Margot Loewenstein, Tuny
27 Mokrauer (Dan Madden), and Donald Mokrauer (Ellen Kirschner);
28 her nine grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; and her
29 four great-great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death in
30 1980 by her husband of 45 years, Bernhard Norbert; therefore,

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 Simone Mokrauer, and we extend our sincere condolences to her
4 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
8 sympathy.
