SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, In 1881, the efforts of Clara Barton led to the
3 establishment of the American Red Cross; this year we celebrate
4 the 125th Anniversary of an organization focused on providing
5 compassionate humanitarian care to all people; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Since its inception, the American Red Cross has
7 grown into an organization which is uniquely chartered by the
8 United States Congress to act in times of need by providing
9 assistance to persons afflicted by local, state, national, or
10 international disasters, as well as assist American military
11 personnel and their families; and
 
12     WHEREAS, American Red Cross chapters in Illinois trained
13 over 579,000 residents and nearly 24,000 volunteers on how to
14 prepare and respond to natural and man-made disasters and in
15 the use of First Aid, CPR, and Automated External
16 Defibrillators, and provided services to over 24,000 Illinois
17 mMilitary personnel and their families; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The American Red Cross is committed to assuring a
19 safe and adequate blood supply for Illinois and the entire
20 nation by performing blood drives where volunteers are asked to
21 donate so that blood is readily available when needed by
22 members of our communities; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Through its work, the American Red Cross, an
24 enduring American institution, restores hope at home and
25 throughout the world everyday; furthermore, the vital services
26 of this humanitarian organization would not be possible without
27 the generous contributions from the American people;
28 therefore, be it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we proclaim the month

1 of March 2006 as American Red Cross Month in the State of
2 Illinois, and we encourage all Illinois citizens to support the
3 noble efforts of the American Red Cross by giving their time,
4 money, or blood donations to this worthy organization so that
5 it may continue to help our communities in time of need; and be
6 it further
 
7     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to the American Red Cross.
