SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 recognize the dedication and efforts of the March of Dimes
4 Illinois Chapter and their volunteers who for over 67 years
5 have been fighting for the health and well-being of America's
6 children and are now taking on the problem of prematurity; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter has made a
8 difference in the lives of over 22,000 premature babies born
9 annually in Illinois; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter is recognized
11 for its programs to improve prematurity risk detection and
12 prevent preterm births; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Thanks to the research and education programs
14 funded by the March of Dimes, every premature baby born has an
15 increased chance for survival; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter serves as a
17 resource for information about healthy pregnancies and
18 prematurity; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter works to
20 increase awareness of the risk factors associated with
21 premature birth such as smoking, drinking, and substance use;
22 and
 
23     WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter has
24 successfully advocated to expand access to health coverage for
25 pregnant women, infants, and children; therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we do hereby proclaim
28 November 15, 2006, as Premature Awareness Day in Illinois and

1 encourage all citizens to be cognizant of the many wonderful
2 and lifesaving services the March of Dimes Illinois Chapter
3 provides to the people of Illinois; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the March of Dimes Illinois Chapter as an
6 expression of our esteem.
