SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Jeune Thompson of Chicago
4 on October 10, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jeune was born March 21, 1953, to Johnny and June
6 Jackson in Chicago; in 1965, she became the adopted daughter of
7 J.D. and Mary Springfield; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jeune attended and completed Willard Elementary
9 and DuSable High School; her high school friends knew she was
10 beautiful both inside and out and elected her Homecoming Queen;
11 Jeune furthered her education by attending nursing school and
12 worked at Park West Medical Center; when she had the
13 opportunity, Jeune changed careers to her true passion,
14 entertainment, working for the past 7 years at Black
15 Entertainment Television (BET); and
 
16     WHEREAS, Jeune accepted Christ at an early age; she joined
17 the SCLC Operation Breadbasket Choir and united with the
18 Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church during her early teens;
19 her activities in the choir fused her passion for music and
20 social justice, enabling her to travel the country on behalf of
21 African American people to picket lines, marches, and rallies;
22 Jeune was sweet, kind, and considerate, the epitome of what a
23 Christian should be; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of Jeune Thompson has been deeply felt
25 by many, especially her husband, Sherman Thompson; her son and
26 stepdaughter, Courtney and Tina; her mother, June Jackson, her
27 brother, Willard (Barbara) Moody; her mother, Mary
28 Springfield; her sister-in-law, Linda Henderson; her 5
29 sisters, Tracy (George) Simmons, Cenita (Bill) Scott, Cindi
30 (Danny) Newbold, Gail Hawkins, and Michael (Reggie) Peterson;
31 her aunt, Lovana S. Jones; her uncles, Harvey Day and Bradley

1 Walker; her 2 grandchildren, 22 nieces, and 19 nephews;
2 numerous cousins, including Toni and Suzette Fitzpatrick and
3 Tim Walker; some very special friends, Athens, Bathsheba,
4 Deborah, Eric, John, Kim, Pam, and Sharon; and a host of loving
5 relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8 Jeune Thompson, and we extend our sincere condolences to her
9 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
13 sympathy.
