SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Harry Lee Redmon of East
4 St. Louis on Sunday, November 13, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Redmon was born in Clifton, Tennessee, and
6 moved to the East St. Louis area when he was a child; he
7 received his education in the East St. Louis Public Schools; he
8 married Viola Patterson of East St. Louis in 1939; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country during World War
10 II as a member of the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged
11 with the rank of seaman 2nd class; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Redmon was a supervisor at the Granite City
13 Engineering Depot and retired in the late 1960s after 20 years;
14 later, he worked in customer service at the Casino Queen; he
15 was a member of Unity Lutheran Church, a former field director
16 for the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council Board, a former
17 member or the East St. Louis Library Board, Chief Aide to
18 former Mayor William Mason, East St. Louis Precinct
19 Committeeman for Precinct 5, a former board member of the East
20 St. Louis Community Development, a past board member of the
21 East St. Louis Urban League, Senior Aide to former Mayor Gordon
22 D. Bush, a member of the NAACP, the American Legion, and he was
23 President of the Senior Citizens Advisory Board; and
 
24     WHEREAS, In 1998, Mr. Redmon was honored with the
25 Distinguished Citizens Award for his community service in the
26 Metro East area; he was constant source of love and support for
27 his family and friends; he always responded to the needs of
28 others with a loving heart and a warm smile; he will be
29 remembered for his sharp wit, handsome attire, and outgoing
30 personality; and

1     WHEREAS, The passing of Harry Lee Redmon has been deeply
2 felt by many, especially his wife of 66 years, Viola Redmon;
3 his son, Charles (Lavondas) Redmon; his granddaughters,
4 Cynthia (Todd) Corley and Lori (Aaron) Arter; his
5 great-grandchildren, Jarred, Brooke, and Elease Corley; his
6 brother, Charles Redmon; his sister, Anna Lue Griggs; his
7 nephews, Robert (Sulbrena) Day and Robert Day Jr.; and his
8 nieces, Carmen (Junius) Johnson and Lynnette Day; he was
9 preceded in death by his parents, William and Beatrice Redmon,
10 and his sister, Ocie; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13 Harry Lee Redmon, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
14 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15 further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
18 sympathy.
