SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Carroll A. Johnson of
4 Rushville on Thursday, December 15, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on February 11, 1925, in Huntsville
6 Township to Ira "Bert" and Ethel Phelps Johnson; he married
7 Betty McCutchan in 1961 in Plymouth; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II,
9 serving from 1943 to 1946 as an electrical mate second class on
10 the USS Roi; he was awarded the victory medal; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson graduated from Plymouth High School in
12 1942, attended Gem City College in Quincy, and received a
13 bachelor's degree in math and science from Western Illinois
14 University in 1951 and a master's degree in administration in
15 1964; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a farmer, raised hogs, and owned Johnson
17 Bros. Trucking in Plymouth for several years; he taught math
18 and physics at Rushville High School from 1951 to 1966, was
19 principal of Rushville High School, and was assistant
20 superintendent in 1967 and superintendent from 1967 until his
21 retirement in 1990; he then served as interim superintendent
22 with the Plymouth School District and a consultant with
23 Consulting and Research Group; and
 
24     WHEREAS, He was a member of First United Methodist Church
25 in Rushville, where served as a trustee, usher, and on the
26 parsonage committee; the Plymouth American Legion Post 912; the
27 Western Administrative Round Table; Phi Kappa Delta
28 fraternity; the Educational League of Illinois; the Illinois
29 Association of School Administrators; the Illinois Principals
30 Association; the West Central Illinois Special Education

1 Cooperative; and the Schuyler-Brown Retired Teacher's
2 Association; he was an organizing member of the Schuyler County
3 Education Foundation, a lifetime member of the Western Illinois
4 University Alumni Association, past president and Paul Harris
5 Fellow of the Rushville Rotary Club, Smiles Day Committee, and
6 Corridor 67 Committee; he was treasurer of the Culbertson
7 Memorial Hospital Board and member of the Culbertson Memorial
8 Hospital Foundation; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The passing of Carroll A. Johnson has been deeply
10 felt by many, especially wife, Betty; his daughter, Carol
11 (husband, Loren); his son, Garry Johnson; his granddaughter,
12 Ali Wilson; his niece; and his many great-nieces and nephews;
13 therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16 Carroll A. Johnson, and we extend our sincere condolences to
17 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18 further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
21 sympathy.
