SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Charles "Goose" Sullivan
4 of Herrin, formerly of Johnston City, on September 28, 2005;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Charlie was born August 2, 1942 in Cairo to
7 Kenneth Lewis and Mary (Clayton) Sullivan; he graduated from
8 Cairo High School in 1960; he married Dorothy Willis of Cape
9 Girardeau, Missouri ; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He was an experienced electrician for Sullivan
11 Electric before he was disabled by multiple sclerosis; and
 
12     WHEREAS, "Goose" Sullivan was a renowned champion duck and
13 goose caller, amassing many national and Illinois State awards
14 within the first 15 years after his high school graduation; for
15 example, he placed first nationally 7 times in the Coon Squall
16 category and he placed first 15 times in Illinois in several
17 categories, including Champion of Champions; most
18 impressively, in national calling contests, "Goose" achieved
19 the National Title of Champion of Champions 4 times; "Goose"
20 was known far and wide as a legendary hunting guide; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Charlie played bass guitar for the popular '60s
22 band 'The Mod's' and enjoyed playing with other members of 'The
23 Mod's', Kyle Lehning, John Steinhouse, Neil Needham, and Donnie
24 Dickerson when they entertained the crowds that came to hear
25 them play; and
 
26     WHEREAS, While many people were saddened to learn of his
27 death, Charlie's passing also reminded his friends of his
28 unforgettable wit, humor, and charm; and
 
29     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father; and

1     WHEREAS, The passing of Charles Sullivan is felt by all who
2 knew and loved him, but especially by his mother, Mary; his
3 daughter, Ashley; his sons, Brian and Matt; his grandchildren,
4 Matti, Clayton, and Cameron; his sister, Susan (Tom) Josey; a
5 nephew, Robby Josey; and his aunt, Stella Bryant; therefore, be
6 it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9 Charles "Goose" Sullivan and we extend our sincerest
10 condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
14 sympathy.
