SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Reverend Willie Davis
4 Melton on Sunday, September 18, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on February 20, 1938, in Tutwiler,
6 Mississippi, to the late Walter and Katie Mae Melton; he
7 relocated to Gary, Indiana, in the early 1950s and worked for
8 USX Gary Works and Blast Furnace, retiring in February of 2000
9 with 32 years of service; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He became a Christian at an early age and united
11 with New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Gary, where he
12 served in several auxiliaries; he later joined the Cornerstone
13 Missionary Baptist Church and was fully ordained on April 11,
14 1993, and was appointed pastor upon the death of Reverend J.
15 Jones Jr.; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; both
17 maternal and paternal grandparents; his sister, Dora; his
18 brother, Walter; his niece, Lorraine Blair; and his
19 great-nephew, Oscar Kelly Jr.; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The passing of Reverend Melton has been deeply
21 felt by many, especially his sisters, Charlotte (Robert)
22 Miller, Katie Mae Blair, Ruth Cooley, Corrine Fairow, and
23 Ernestine Melton; his brothers, Eddie Melton and Lendal
24 (Rochelle) Melton; his daughters, Timi (Floyd) Boyd, Towana
25 Melton, Evangelist Brenda (Cubby) Gray, and Andrea (Jeffrey)
26 Tucker; his sons, Robert Stinneth and Timothy Melton; his eight
27 grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; his aunts, Maggie
28 Peterson, Lillie Davis, and Geneva; and his many other
29 relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
30     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL

1 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2 Reverend Willie Davis Melton, and we extend our sincere
3 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
4 him; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
7 sympathy.
