SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Donald D. Wesemann of
4 Hampshire on Saturday, September 24, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on March 6, 1931, on the family farm
6 in Hampshire Township to Herman and Mareta (Lenz) Wesemann; he
7 was a 1949 graduate of Hampshire High School and served in the
8 U.S. Army in Germany following the Korean War; and
 
9     WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Wesemann returned
10 to Hampshire and the family farm, where he raised his family;
11 in addition to farming, he was an Illinois-licensed livestock
12 hauler; he worked as a toll collector for the Illinois State
13 Toll Highway Authority at Plaza 9 for 16 years, retiring in
14 2000; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was very active in the Kane County Republican
16 Party and was a founder and the first chairman of the Western
17 Kane County Republican Organization; he served for more than 30
18 years as a Precinct 2 Hampshire Township committeeman and was a
19 past commander of American Legion Post 680 and a lifetime
20 member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8043, both of
21 Hampshire; he was a member of Elgin Moose Lodge 799 and served
22 on the board of the Veteran's Assistance Commission for Kane
23 County; he was a member of First Lutheran Church in DeKalb; and
 
24     WHEREAS, He loved to perform his chores around the family
25 homestead and enjoyed gardening and riding his John Deere Gator
26 around the farm; he was known for his friendliness and his love
27 of conversation; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Donald D. Wesemann has been deeply
29 felt by many, especially his wife, Trudy (Johnson) Wesemann,
30 whom he married on October 23, 1977, in DeKalb; his children,

1 Donald Wesemann, Elizabeth Wesemann, and Amanda Wesemann; his
2 grandson, Jonathan Cumberledge; his sister, Alta (Harold)
3 Dittman; his brother, Herman (Jeanette) Wesemann; his
4 sister-in-law, Betty Wesemann; his brother-in-law, John "Jack"
5 Allen; and his many nieces and nephews; he was preceded in
6 death by his parents; his infant daughter, Tracy; his sister,
7 Mareta Allen; and his brother, Elmer Wesemann; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10 Donald D. Wesemann, and we extend our sincere condolences to
11 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12 further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
15 sympathy.
