SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of John H. Doerr of Holiday
4 Shores on Friday, August 19, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on May 8, 1906, in St. Louis to John
6 G. Doerr and Mary Vahle Doerr; he lived in Alton all his life
7 and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as
8 an amphibious engineer, Second Brigade, in the South Pacific
9 for 26 months; he was awarded two Bronze Stars for his actions
10 during that campaign; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He was an employee of Olin Brass Mill for 37 years
12 and was in charge of quality control at the time of his
13 retirement in July of 1967; an avid golfer and fisherman, he
14 traveled to Egypt with his niece in 1993 for a 10-day tour down
15 the Nile River, visiting the Great Pyramids, King Tut's tomb,
16 and the Egyptian Museum, a highlight of his travels, which were
17 many; he loved the Rams, the Illini, and the Kentucky Derby;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, He was the pillar of his family with a great love
20 of family heritage and often shared stories from his family's
21 past; he will be greatly missed, but family memories are
22 preserved thanks to his willingness to protect the past for
23 future generations; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of John H. Doerr has been deeply felt
25 by many, especially his nieces, June Doerr Wright, Billy
26 Weigler, Betty Kotval, Judy Tyler, Marilyn Smalley, Linda
27 Barth, Phyllis Frye and her husband Barry, and Norma Wilson;
28 his nephew, John Doerr and wife Glenna; his many great-nieces
29 and great-nephews; and his sister-in-law, Beatrice Doerr, the
30 widow of Albert; he was preceded in death by his parents; his
31 brothers, William Doerr and wife Elsie, Henry Doerr and wife

1 Henrietta, and Albert Doerr; and his loving companion of 40
2 years, Hattie Beatrice Scott; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5 John H. Doerr, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
6 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7 further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
10 sympathy.
