SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Lewis Jule Krause, former
4 mayor of Collinsville, on Monday, March 21, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on August 25, 1917, in Trenton; he
6 graduated from Collinsville High School in 1935 and was
7 presented the Alumni Achievement Award in 2002; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Krause retired from Allied Chemical and the
9 Illinois Department of Transportation; he served three
10 consecutive terms as mayor of Collinsville from 1967 to 1979;
11 in three consecutive elections, he never lost a precinct; and
 
12     WHEREAS, As mayor, he oversaw Collinsville's rebirth from a
13 coal mining community to a commercial community; he initiated
14 the appropriation of over $4,000,000 in federal grants, which
15 helped provide a city-wide sewage system project, the
16 restoration of City Hall, the expansion of the fire station and
17 a new police station; the sewer project changed Collinsville
18 forever; when it began, less than half of the city had sewer
19 service, and by the time he left office, 90 percent of the city
20 had sewers; he also oversaw a permanent street surfacing
21 program; and
 
22     WHEREAS, He was a member and past president of St. John
23 United Church of Christ and member and past president of the
24 Collinsville Democratic Club, the Collinsville Masonic Lodge
25 #712, Ainad Shrine, and the American Legion Post #365 of
26 Collinsville; he also had served on many civic and governmental
27 committees and boards; and
 
28     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine,
29 nee Diaz, Krause, whom he married on June 28, 1943; his
30 parents, Julius and Margaret, nee Stahl, Krause; his brothers,

1 Orville, Leroy, Vernon, and Norman Krause; and his sisters,
2 Pearl Pflugbeil, Estella Wrigley, Mildred Sperino Sapp, Olga
3 Geers, Emylyn Krause, and Ramona Berta; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The passing of Lewis Jule Krause has been deeply
5 felt by many, especially his son, Terry (Candace) Krause; his
6 sisters, Christine Becker and Lenore Parker; his
7 brother-in-law, Dennis (Peggy) Diaz; his grandchildren, Katie,
8 Tyler, Sydney, and Bailey; and his numerous nieces and nephews;
9 he was also preceded in death by his parents, Julius and
10 Margaret, nee Stahl, Krause; his brothers, Orville, Leroy,
11 Vernon, and Norman Krause; and his sisters, Pearl Pflugbeil,
12 Estella Wrigley, Mildred Sperino Sapp, Olga Geers, Emylyn
13 Krause, and Ramona Berta; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
16 Lewis Jule Krause, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
17 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18 further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
21 condolences.
