SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Margaret Iola Morrison of
4 Springfield on February 5, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Margaret Morrison was the only child born to the
6 union of Walter Anderson and Margaret Angela Coe-Anderson on
7 July 20, 1920; and
 
8     WHEREAS, She was educated in the Springfield Public Schools
9 and graduated from the American Correspondence School; on
10 December 23, 1939, she married Farries H. Morrison, Sr.; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She participated in several youth activities at
12 Brown Street Church of God in Christ, including the Sunshine
13 Band, the Puritans, and the choir; she loved gospel music and
14 was an excellent soloist; she was also an active participant in
15 all aspects of the Church of God in Christ at the local,
16 district, state jurisdictional, and national levels; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Along with her husband, she founded Prayer Wheel
18 Church of God in Christ in Springfield and East Side Church of
19 God in Christ in Decatur; she was a lifetime member of Prayer
20 Wheel Church of God in Christ, where she served as first lady
21 for over 45 years, the President of the Mothers' Board, and
22 Superintendent of the Sunday School Department; and
 
23     WHEREAS, For 13 years, she was the First Assistant
24 Supervisor of Women in the Central Illinois Jurisdiction for
25 the Church of God in Christ, International; for many years, she
26 was a member of the Springfield Women United and served as
27 President of the Pastors' and Ministers' Wives Fellowship of
28 Springfield; she was awarded the Senior Citizen Meritorious
29 Contribution to the Community Award by the National Association
30 for the Advancement for Colored People, Springfield Chapter;

2     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her daughter,
3 Margaret Ann Morrison, and her great-grandson, Juan L.
4 Morrison, III; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The passing of Margaret Iola Morrison is felt by
6 all who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Rev.
7 Farries H. Morrison, Sr.; her sons, Rev. Dr. Farries H.
8 Morrison, Jr., (Betty) and Rev. Dr. Juan Morrison, Sr.,
9 (Clementine); her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her
10 cousins, nieces, and nephews; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth
11 Thrailkill; and her many friends; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14 Margaret Iola Morrison and we extend our sincere condolences to
15 her family, friends, and community; and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
18 sympathy.
