SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Minnette Haywood-Lloyd on
4 Monday, December 13, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on March 22, 1930, in Chicago to
6 Edward and Osie Ola Haywood; she attended Wendell Phillips High
7 School and graduated with honors; during her high school years,
8 she helped support her younger siblings by working as a candy
9 striper at the old Mercy Hospital and Shoots and Burkes Cookie
10 Factory; as a result of working at the hospital, she was
11 inspired to study nursing at Wright Junior College; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mrs. Haywood-Lloyd's faith was very important to
13 her; she was baptized at Progressive Baptist Church and later
14 joined Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a
15 member of the Nurses Board; she also attended True Rock
16 Ministries; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Minnette met Charles Lloyd on July 4, 1950, at a
18 4th of July picnic celebration in Lincoln Park; they courted
19 and were married; he preceded her in death; and
 
20     WHEREAS, When her children were older, Mrs. Haywood-Lloyd
21 returned to the workforce and was employed at Service Products
22 as a supervisor and was the head union steward until she
23 retired; although she never obtained her nursing license, she
24 was the nurse and care taker of all in need; and
 
25     WHEREAS, She was a member of the Elks Organization and
26 Eastern Star; she was an avid supporter of the United Negro
27 College Fund and believed that every child should have an
28 opportunity to pursue a better life and education; she believed
29 that children were the future and without prepared children
30 there is no tomorrow; she had a lust for life, personified

1 beauty, elegance, grace, and sophistication and exemplified
2 the true meaning of "motherhood"; and
 
3     WHEREAS, The passing of Minnette Haywood-Lloyd has been
4 deeply felt by many, especially her daughters, Elaine Lloyd
5 Sutton, Rose Anthony, and JoAnn Lee; her grandsons, Kwame
6 Anthony, Christopher Sutton, Charles Lloyd Sutton, Jason Brady
7 Anthony, and Jeremy Brady Anthony; her great-grandsons, Justin
8 Sutton and Kwame Anthony, Jr.; her granddaughters, Martiniques
9 Sutton and Jude Ashley Sutton; her great-granddaughters,
10 Christi Parnell Anthony, Jasmine Sutton Russell, Joel Sutton
11 Russell, Cassidy Sutton, and Cameron Sutton; her sisters,
12 Verneda Haywood Chapton, Betty (Willie Williams), and Joann
13 (Kenneth Lee); her brothers, Earl Haywood and Herman Haywood;
14 her nieces, nephews, and cousins; her extended family; and her
15 many friends; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18 Minnette Haywood-Lloyd, and we extend our deepest sympathy to
19 her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20 further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented her family as an expression of our sincere
23 condolences.
