SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
750 ILCS 5/213.1

    Amends the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act. Provides that only marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized in Illinois. Provides that the uniting of persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar same sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Illinois. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning families.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of
5 Marriage Act is amended by changing Section 213.1 as follows:
 
6     (750 ILCS 5/213.1)
7     Sec. 213.1. Same-sex marriages; public policy. A marriage
8 between 2 individuals of the same sex is contrary to the public
9 policy of this State. Only marriage between one man and one
10 woman shall be valid or recognized in Illinois. The uniting of
11 persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership,
12 or other similar same sex relationship shall not be valid or
13 recognized in Illinois.

15     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16 becoming law.
