HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 members of the House of Representatives of the State of
4 Illinois are pleased to recognize Lillie Sanders on the
5 occasion of her retirement from the field of education; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Ms. Sanders has been the Director of the Chicago
7 Public Schools' (CPS) NCLB Title I Parent Resource Service
8 Center (PRSC) since August of 2000; in this position, she has
9 been responsible for citywide parental involvement; she
10 planned the first town hall meeting for CPS in October of 2000,
11 and subsequent meetings, forums, and symposiums are now
12 standard programming by the CPS Parent Resource Service Center;
13 these forums provide services for parents such as employment,
14 housing information, literacy training, health and nutrition
15 information, and a multitude of other services; she and the
16 center's staff preside over annual parent graduations of more
17 than 300 parents who receive diplomas for active participation
18 in various schools during a semester; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Prior to serving as director of the PRSC, Ms.
20 Sanders taught the third, fifth, and sixth grades at Beethoven
21 Elementary School, where she was nominated and received Teacher
22 of the Year Awards from Congressman Danny K. Davis and the
23 Reverend Jesse Jackson in 1999; she worked as
24 teacher/coordinator for the CPS Young Parents Program from 1992
25 to 1994; the program enjoyed a record number of GED completions
26 annually under her leadership; she also worked as a part-time
27 adjunct professor at Chicago State University; and
 
28     WHEREAS, Among her other accomplishments were the roles she
29 played in staffing the Jeffery Shopping Center as Assistant
30 Director of Employment and Training at The Neighborhood
31 Institute/South Shore Bank and as Director of Job Placement at
32 MSTA Business College, where the job placement percentage

1 ranged from 80% to 90% monthly; and
 
2     WHEREAS, She attended the University of Chicago at Circle
3 Campus; she graduated from Chicago State University with a
4 master's degree in education in 1983; she also completed
5 requirements for a master's degree in education administration
6 and supervision; she was in Who's Who Among Colleges and
7 Universities and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; and
 
8     WHEREAS, She is actively involved in community activities;
9 she is a member of the Chatham Business Association and is an
10 active member and volunteer of Rainbow/PUSH, where she works
11 collaboratively with Rainbow/PUSH's staff to plan and sponsor
12 NCLB Chicago Public Schools' Parent Retreats; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 we congratulate Lillie Sanders on the occasion of her
16 retirement; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Ms. Sanders as an expression of our esteem.
