HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, On April 27, 2006, Superintendent Richard A. Maier
3 will retire from public service; he has served the education
4 system for the last 34 years with distinction and dedication;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Richard A. Maier has held numerous positions with
7 Will County School District 92, including Superintendent,
8 Assistant Superintendent, Principal, and teacher; during this
9 time, the district's demographics have changed from a rural
10 school system to a suburban system considered one of the
11 fastest growing communities in Will County; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Richard's leadership as Superintendent of Will
13 County School District 92 for the past eleven years has
14 provided a vision for collaboration among the seven Lockport
15 Area Consortium elementary districts and Lockport Township
16 High School District 205; and
 
17     WHEREAS, As Superintendent his major accomplishments
18 included passing two referendums providing the bonding
19 authority to build Oak Prairie Junior High School and an
20 educational rate increase; passing technology programming
21 initiatives that began the installation of the first wireless
22 lab in Will County; and influencing the design of
23 differentiated curricular programs for students of varying
24 talents and needs that included second language instruction,
25 academically talented courses, before and after school
26 programs, the integration of technology as a tool for learning,
27 and fine arts programming for all students; and
 
28     WHEREAS, Mr. Maier was instrumental in the establishment of
29 a Foundation for Educational Excellence; this group has
30 provided funds to develop an outdoor educational classroom at
31 Oak Prairie Junior High School and awards yearly teacher grants

1 for unique educational programs; and
 
2     WHEREAS, In 2001, Mr. Maier was awarded a Fulbright
3 Memorial Fund Fellowship to participate in an educational study
4 tour to Japan; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Superintendent Richard A. Maier has dedicated his
6 life to the education and enrichment of children in Illinois;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we honor and congratulate Richard A. Maier on his service and
11 retirement; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to him as an expression of our esteem and admiration.
