HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Two teams from Gibault High School in Waterloo
3 recently placed first and second in the Land of Lincoln High
4 School Region Stock Market Game program (SMG); and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Land of Lincoln High School Region included
6 124 student teams last fall; statewide, a total of more than
7 9,000 students participated in the program; the SMG is
8 administered for students within fourth through twelfth grades
9 throughout the State of Illinois by the Illinois Council on
10 Economic Education, a division of Northern Illinois University
11 Outreach; and
 
12     WHEREAS, SMG program participants excel in school because
13 experience reinforces education; as students buy and sell
14 investments in their simulated portfolios, they make practical
15 use of cross-curricular skills and knowledge in areas such as
16 math, history, civics, and language; they learn economic
17 concepts in context, which makes a difference in their lives
18 and their test scores; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Teachers and their students are recognized with
20 SMG CD cases and Certificates of Award for their successful
21 efforts; first and second place teachers also receive a check
22 which can be used for economic education materials or to apply
23 toward future participation in the simulation; all winning
24 teachers also receive an SMG pocket calculator; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Gibault High School's SMG teacher is Jim Corsi;
26 the first place students are Adam Fournie, Sarah Harbaugh,
27 Danielle Hayden, Michelle Holle, and Rick Post; second place
28 students are Alex Birkner, Stephanie Hart, Jena Lansing, Katie
29 Morris, and Alex Rottler; therefore, be it
 
30     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2 we congratulate the first and second place Stock Market Game
3 teams and their teacher, Jim Corsi; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to each of the winning team members and Mr. Corsi as
6 an expression of our esteem.
