HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, 12.7 million people live in the State of Illinois,
3 and 6.3 million comprise its work force; and
 
4     WHEREAS, For tax year 2004, Illinois citizens paid a total
5 of $108.5 billion in federal income taxes; of that total,
6 corporations in the State paid $17.7 billion, and individuals
7 paid $86.4 billion; and
 
8     WHEREAS, For tax year 2004, the State of Illinois ranked
9 4th in the amount of federal income taxes collected, but the
10 moneys that came back to the State from the federal government
11 were much less than the amounts received by other states that
12 pay similar amounts in federal income taxes; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 we urge the Department of Revenue to conduct an annual review
16 of the amount of federal income tax collected from Illinois
17 citizens and the amount of federal moneys that the State
18 receives back in comparison to other states; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That we urge the Department of Revenue to report
20 its findings to the Governor and the General Assembly each
21 year; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
23 delivered to the Governor, the Director of Revenue, the
24 congressional delegation from Illinois, and the President of
25 the United States.
