HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death in combat
4 in Afghanistan of Sergeant First Class James Scott Ochsner of
5 Waukegan on November 15, 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born at Great Lakes Naval Base in May of
7 1969; he attended Cook Magnet School, St. Anastasia Grammar
8 School, and St. Joseph High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He entered the U.S. Army in July of 1987; his
10 first enlistment was as an artilleryman in Germany from 1987 to
11 1990; at the end of that enlistment, he reenlisted for the
12 infantry; he spent 1990 to 1999 with the famous 325th and 505th
13 Parachute Infantry Regiments of the 82nd Airborne Division; and
 
14     WHEREAS, With the exception of a tour to Korea in 1997 as
15 part of the United Nations Security Force, Sergeant Ochsner led
16 soldiers all over the world as part of America's Guard of
17 Honor, including combat duty in the Arabian Peninsula during
18 Desert Storm and peace keeping duty in the Sinai Desert as part
19 of the multi-national forces; and
 
20     WHEREAS, In 1999, Sergeant Ochsner left the 82nd Airborne
21 Division and volunteered for the Special Forces; he completed
22 his training in 2001 as a Special Forces Communications
23 Sergeant and was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group
24 (Airborne); he deployed four times to Afghanistan; his final
25 assignment was as the Operations and Intelligence Sergeant for
26 ODA344, where he was one of the best advanced Special
27 Operations Trained Operators conducting missions in Operation
28 Enduring Freedom; and
 
29     WHEREAS, His awards are numerous and include the Bronze
30 Star Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendations

1 Medal with "V" Device, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak
2 Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 3 Oak Leaf
3 Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal with 4 Knots, the
4 National Defense Service Medal 2NS Award, the Overseas Service
5 Ribbon with Numeral 2, the Combat Infantryman Badge 2nd Award,
6 the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the
7 Parachutist Badge, and the Special Forces TAB; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant First Class James Scott
9 Ochsner has been deeply felt by many, especially wife, Ann; his
10 daughter, Meagan; his son, Nicholas; his parents, Robert and
11 Sandra; his brother, Master Sergeant Robert L. Ochsner; and his
12 sister, Jennifer; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 we mourn the passing of Sergeant First Class James Scott
16 Ochsner, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family,
17 friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Ochsner and
19 his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making
20 the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest
23 condolences.
