HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, There are more than 49,000 perianesthesia
3 registered nurses in the United States whose interests are
4 represented by one of our nation's premier specialty nursing
5 organizations, the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses;
6 and
 
7     WHEREAS, Perianesthesia nurses practice in all phases of
8 preanesthesia and postanesthesia care, ambulatory surgery,
9 pain management, and special procedure areas; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The depth and breadth of the perianesthesia
11 nursing profession meets the varied and emerging health care
12 needs of the American population in a diversified range of
13 environments; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, as
15 the representative for the perianesthesia nurses of this
16 country, strives to advance nursing practice, through
17 education, research, and standards; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Perianesthesia nursing has been established as
19 essential in the quality of health care and safety of patients
20 in the hospital and ambulatory surgery settings; and
 
21     WHEREAS, The demand for perianesthesia nurses will only
22 increase due to an aging American population, advances in
23 medicine that are prolonging life, and the meteoric expansion
24 of home health care services; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The inestimable pre-eminent value of services and
26 care provided by perianesthesia nurses will be of paramount
27 importance to the American health care system; and
 
28     WHEREAS, Along with the American Society of PeriAnesthesia

1 Nurses (ASPAN), the Illinois Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses
2 (ILSPAN) has declared the week of February 6-12, 2006, as
3 "PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week" with the theme of:
4 "Perianesthesia Nurses...Exceptional People Touching Your
5 World" in celebration of the ways perianesthesia nurses strive
6 to advance nursing practices; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we honor the perianesthesia nurses who care so unselfishly and
10 proficiently for us all; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That we recognize perianesthesia nurses'
12 accomplishments and efforts to improve the quality of patient
13 care and nursing practices, and we encourage all citizens to
14 show appreciation for our nation's perianesthesia nurses not
15 just during the designated week, but at every opportunity
16 throughout the year; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the Illinois Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses as
19 an expression of our esteem.
