HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The month of January, 2006, will mark the fifth
3 time this State and the rest of the nation has chosen to call
4 special attention to the unique benefits that can occur when
5 adults give extra time and energy to helping America's youth;
6 and
 
7     WHEREAS, This new tradition has been designated as National
8 Mentoring Month; and
 
9     WHEREAS, This observance was inaugurated by the Harvard
10 School of Public Health and actively initiated by groups like
11 Big Brothers Big Sisters; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In Illinois, the public observance has been
13 spearheaded by many other groups including Girls Clubs of
14 Chicago, Casa Central, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago
15 Department of Children and Youth Services, Community Resource
16 Network, Horizons for Youth, Jewish Children Bureau, Mercy Home
17 for Boys and Girls, New Concepts-Tutor Mentor Connection, and
18 Uhlich Children's Advantage Network; and
 
19     WHEREAS, National Mentoring Month will be highlighted on
20 January 25th when all Illinoisans are asked to participate in
21 "Thank Your Mentor Day" by personally thanking their mentors,
22 committing to mentor a young person, and writing a tribute to
23 their mentor at www.WhoMentoredYou.org; therefore, be it
 
24     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 we salute the outstanding contributions by the proponents of
27 National Mentoring Month; and be it further
 
28     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent
29 to the National Mentoring Month coordinating committee.
