HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Betty Coffrin on
4 the occasion of her retirement; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Betty J. Coffrin was born in Paris, Illinois; she
6 graduated from Salida High School in Salida, Colorado in May
7 1967; she later attended Lake Land College in Mattoon,
8 Illinois; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Ms. Coffrin worked in the Identification Division
10 of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C.
11 July-December 1967; she worked in the Washington office of
12 Congressman W.L. Hungate of Missouri January 1968-January
13 1970; she served as Deputy County Clerk of Coles County in
14 Charleston, Illinois October 1971-January 1985; she served as
15 Chief Deputy County Clerk January 1985-December 1986; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Ms. Coffrin was elected County Clerk of Coles
17 County in 1986 and took office in December of that year; she
18 was re-elected in 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Ms. Coffrin has been a member of the Illinois
20 Association of County Clerks and Recorders since 1986, serving
21 since 1990 as Association Treasurer and a Member of the
22 Executive and Legislative Committee; she was an appointed
23 member of the State Board of Elections Advisory Committee
24 1996-1998 and was appointed to the State Mandates Review Board
25 in 1997; she was named County Clerk of the Year by the Illinois
26 Association of County Clerks and Recorders in 1999, 2001, and
27 2004; she was nominated for the Charleston Area Chamber of
28 Commerce Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award for 2005; and
 
29     WHEREAS, Ms. Coffrin has been a member of the Zone III
30 County Clerks Association since 1986, serving as Association

1 President in 1992; she is a member of the Selective Service
2 Board, Coles County CASA, the Charleston 4th of July Committee,
3 and the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary; she is a Past
4 President of the Charleston Zonta Club and the Coles County
5 Republican Women's Club and a Past Treasurer of the Coles
6 County Republican Central Committee; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we congratulate Betty Coffrin on the occasion of her retirement
10 as Coles County Clerk and Recorder of Deeds; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Betty Coffrin as an expression of our respect,
13 esteem, and best wishes.
