HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4 Constantino "Gus" Travlos of Chicago on May 19, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Travlos was born on December 1, 1934, on an
6 island of Greece called Kefalonia; he immigrated to the United
7 States as a teenager and became a naturalized citizen; he
8 married his wife, June, in 1960 at St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox
9 Church and, in 1964, they bought their first home in the
10 Edgewater Beach community; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He worked for decades in fine dining restaurants
12 and hotels before he became involved in real estate; in hopes
13 of stopping the decay and deterioration of the Edgewater Beach
14 area, Mr. Travlos and his wife purchased a number of multi-unit
15 residential properties and, in 1979, together with their
16 daughters, Tina and Elaine, they began Edgewater Development
17 Company, a family real estate business; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mr. Travlos will forever be remembered as a
19 pioneer who cared for his community; he was a risk taker who
20 believed that positive changes would be done if he showed
21 others it could happen; with the help of his family, he worked
22 with Edgewater's political leadership, community groups, and
23 neighbors to improve the quality of life available to residents
24 and businesses; with his family, he contributed to the
25 establishment of the Bryn Mawr Historic District and worked for
26 neighborhood security with the Kenmore-Winthrop Patrol; his
27 accomplishments earned him Edgewater's first annual Quality of
28 Life Award; and
 
29     WHEREAS, The passing of Gus Travlos is felt by all who knew
30 and loved him, especially his wife of 45 years, June; and his
31 daughters, Tina and Raymond Nihlean and Elaine; therefore, be

2     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4 we mourn the passing of such an instrumental community figure
5 and devoted family man as Gus Travlos and extend our sincerest
6 condolences to his family and to all of his numerous friends;
7 and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
10 sympathy.
