HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives offer their sincere appreciation and gratitude
4 to Judith M. Gall for her lifetime of dedication to building
5 strong communities through positive youth programs and
6 services; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Ms. Gall holds a Bachelor of Social Work from West
8 Virginia University and a Master of Social Work from the
9 University of Illinois Chicago; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She is a certified Social Worker, beginning as a
11 VISTA volunteer, then serving as Assistant Director and
12 Director of the Southern Cultural Exchange Center, where she
13 worked to preserve and develop the cultural identity and pride
14 of Appalachian residents in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood; and
 
15     WHEREAS, She became the Executive Director of
16 Alternatives, Inc., a private, not-for-profit, community-based
17 youth and family agency serving Chicago's diverse northeast
18 side, which has grown from a staff of four to fifty and become
19 a leader in youth programming in Chicago, having initiated the
20 State's first South East Asian Refugee Youth Project, a Native
21 American Prevention Services Project, After-School Action
22 Program, student-led Restorative Justice programs, and the
23 State's first School-to-Work Initiative; and
 
24     WHEREAS, She is a Leadership Greater Chicago fellow and
25 active community member who continues to serve as a Board
26 Director for several youth-serving organizations; she remains
27 committed to community organizing as a community-building
28 strategy; she has served on numerous State Advisory Committees
29 relating to substance abuse prevention and treatment policies;

1     WHEREAS, Ms. Gall continues, after twenty-five years of
2 service, to lead Alternatives, Inc. with a vision of enhancing
3 the community through programs and services designed,
4 developed, and led by youth; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Ms. Gall is the proud parent of son Andrew, who
6 has just graduated from Tulane University; she is both
7 committed to her own son and to being an advocate for all young
8 people; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we honor Judith M. Gall for her many accomplishments as a
12 community leader and advocate for young people and congratulate
13 her and express our gratitude for her twenty-five years leading
14 Alternatives, Inc.; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Judith M. Gall as an expression of our respect and
17 esteem.
