HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School in Chicago has been
3 recognized for its excellence in academics; Newsweek honored
4 the school as one of the country's best, ranking it first in
5 the State and 31st in the country; Lincoln Park High School is
6 one of only two high schools in Illinois recognized as one the
7 top 100 schools in the country; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School students, Sophia F.
9 Darugar and Ian R. Feldman, have been named Merit Scholars and
10 have been awarded National Merit Scholarships; the Lincoln Park
11 High School Class of 2005 had eight semifinalists in the
12 National Merit Scholarship Program; over the past 15 years, the
13 total of National Merit Semifinalists at Lincoln Park is
14 greater than the combined total of all other Chicago Public
15 Schools; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School students complete
17 Advanced Placement Exams at one of the highest rates in the
18 country and the School's International Baccalaureate Program
19 is in the top five percent of programs internationally; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School students participate in
21 and excel at academic competitions; students have been honored
22 for their achievements at the Chicago City Science Fair, the
23 Chicago History Fair, the Siemens Westinghouse Competition in
24 Math, Science, and Technology and the Chicago City Math League
25 Championship; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School students demonstrate
27 both passion and talent for musical endeavors; the Chorus,
28 Orchestra, Concert Band, and Pep Band are consistently honored
29 at the city and State level; and
 
30     WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School has academic and cultural

1 exchanges with three sister schools: Christianeum Gymnasium in
2 Hamburg, Germany, Le Cedre in Casablanca, Morocco, and Louis Le
3 Grand in Paris, France; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School students excel on the
5 field; the girls soccer team is the city champion; therefore,
6 be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we congratulate Lincoln Park High School, Principal Bessie
10 Karvelas, and the Graduating Class of 2005 for their dedication
11 to excellence; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Lincoln Park High School as an expression of our
14 respect, esteem, and pride.
