HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Historic preservation provides opportunities to
3 rapidly employ persons in diverse areas of the economy,
4 revitalize neighborhoods, communities, and rural areas, entice
5 nationwide private capital investment, and foster heritage
6 tourism; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The family farm is the foundation of rural
8 America; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Many historic barns are located on family farms;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, Historic barns are becoming national treasures
12 and rehabilitating and repairing historic barns as necessary,
13 to preserve the barns functionality and to preserve the rural
14 landscape, provides benefits to farmers as well as to the
15 communities and economic vitality of the areas in which the
16 barns are located; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Congress acted in 2002 to establish a Historic
18 Barn Preservation Program; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21 we urge the appropriations committees of the United States
22 Congress to appropriate such funds as necessary to implement
23 the Historic Barn Preservation Act in FY 2006; and be it
24 further
 
25     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be sent to the
26 Honorable Ted Stevens, President Pro Tempore of the U.S.
27 Senate; the Honorable J. Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the U.S.
28 House of Representatives; each member of the Illinois
29 congressional delegation; the Honorable Senator Thad Cochran,

2 Honorable Congressman Jerry Lewis, Chair of the U.S. House of
